This past Friday (August 13th, 2010), I had the opportunity to support and take photos of my friends in the band Elation. They played at The Boiler Room in downtown Asheville and aside from nearly 90% of their friends and fans not being able to come due to a very strict 18+ policy, everything was awesome!
I took this photograph with my Father’s wide-angle lens with no flash, a 1/5 second exposure, an aperture of f/2.8, and an ISO of 1,600.

What I enjoyed about the photography here was that I was not used to this sort of lighting and I had to get creative. I tried tons of different combinations and figured out which ones worked and went with it. I really love the above photograph. Aside from slight shadow/highlight boosting in Aperture, the color is unadjusted and he was illuminated green thanks to a well timed light show.

From left-to-right, there’s: Derrick (drums), Corbin (guitar & vocals), Me! (photographer & overall benefactor), and Lee (Bass). One of the reasons I like this photo despite the non-flattering lighting/facial positioning of some of the band members is 1) I really like that shirt and 2) I’m holding up a first edition of a logo I designed for Elation, that I dye-sublimated onto a true old-school hat that morning.

Last but not least is a photograph of one of my very good friends Spencer who also came out to support the band and as an added bonus, got a really cool, new profile picture! : )
